Lebron James: Between Business and Destiny

If people believe in destiny, then they should know more of how Lebron James makes his own destiny. The NBA superstar just won the NBA title dramatically with the Cleveland Cavaliers against the Golden State Warriors after being down 3-1.  

Cleveland Cavaliers with the right for the first pick in 2003 selected their hometown player in Lebron James. He already made a name for himself as the high school sensation, so it was not a secret that most teams in the NBA had their eye on him. But Lebron James is destined to bring the championship to the city of Cleveland.

Failing to do so for the first seven years of his career, Lebron went to the Miami Heat to team up with his best friend Dwyane Wade. He made a promise that he would bring championship for Cleveland, so it is no wonder that a lot of people thought it was an act of betrayal. His hometown went crazy where people burn his jersey and it led to the infamous letter from the Cleveland Cavaliers’ owner, Dan Gilbert. Most former players criticized his decision and questioned his place among the NBA players of all time.

Playing 4 years with the Miami Heat, Lebron took the team to four straight NBA finals, even though he only won twice. Having championship on his resume, he decided to go back to Cleveland to settle his unfinished business. “I’m coming home” statement just made his broken-hearted fans in Cleveland believe in second chance.

Lebron’s presence was definitely big, because not only he made the Cleveland Cavaliers reach the final in 2015, but he did it while playing without Kevin Love on his way to the final. He lost to the Warriors, but he took 2 games in Kyrie Irving’s absence.

With healthy teammates, Lebron took the Cavaliers to the final again with ease to face the defending champion. Coming down from 3-1 deficit, Lebron delivered the best 3 games of his life averaging 36.3 points per game, 11.7 rebounds per game, 9.7 assist per game, 3 steals per game, 3 block per game on a 50.6 FG% to bring the first NBA championship for his hometown.

Lebron is making his own destiny not only on the court, but also in his business empire. He built agent and sports-marketing company with his childhood friends, Rich Paul, Maverick Carter and Randy Mims.

Lebron James business decisions has attracted Harvard Business School because of his marketing power that They have a case study and book written about Lebron’s new model for sports marketing. Lebron’s latest deal with Nike is reported to be worth over $1 billion further shows his brilliance, because Lebron is well on his way to becoming the richest athlete of all time.

In 2016, his sacrifice and his courage come to fruition. On the court, He fulfills his promise to the city of Cleveland while off the court, Lebron James brand grows even bigger. His limit will be as high as he wants to make his own destiny.
